prev # January 12, 2004 4:37 p.m. # next More like Lynn every day...What one thing are you most looking forward to . . . 1. ...today? Hmm...um...my workday is over, and it was a really easy one (play selection meeting and a short rehearsal). I already worked out too. I'll spend the evening working on lines, doing research for the show, maybe watching Good Will Hunting for the Boston accent, reading...Nothing much to look forward to. I guess I was kinda looking forward to play selection, cause today was the day we decided on next year's season. (see below) 2. ...over the next week? Jeremy will be here on Sunday! 3. ...this year? The remaining 5 months of my internship; taking advantage of this oppotunity to focus completely on acting. And now, spending those same months with J. Beyond that, I enjoy the fact that my options are wide open. Summers are always something to look forward to; hopefully I'll be somewhere beautiful again and spend LOTS of time outside. Also, writing more songs and getting better on guitar. 4. ...over the next five years? Continuing to explore new places, taking advantage of the fact that I don't have to commit to anything yet. Living in New York again and seeing where that takes me, using what I learned from the first time around. Travelling a lot (budget allowing). Finding my "niche" as an actor, and whether I'd rather stay in the city or work for a company like this one here. 5. ...for the rest of your life? Growing as an actor/musician and human being. Becoming a truly loving person and letting go of anger, insecurity, and guilt as much as possible. New experiences, particularly the experience of growing older & seeing more of the world. Living my life as a positive influence, doing something that impacts the world in a positive way, somehow. Making the most of what is thrown my way, and seriously pursuing what I am most passionate about. Being happy. Well Golly Gee, that all sounds pretty darn optimistic! Perhaps my character in the show's been rubbing off on me....I don't mind that. Oh, and I seem to have had trouble sticking to "one thing". Oops. Deal with it. So yeah, the final play selection meeting was today. I wasn't sad to be done - the meetings are generally interesting but can get loooooong. Our season next year (I say "our" though I won't actually be here unless they hire me for a show as a guest artist): Born Yesterday A comedy from the late 40s, I think. Appropriate for election time - deals with war profiteering and such... A Christmas Story Yeah, the play version of that movie... "you'll shoot your eye out"...they've done it once before, and it was the only time in BTE history when tickets were scalped outside the theater. Very profitable show. How I Learned to Drive Apparently BTE got a copy of the manuscript from playwright Paula Vogel before this play was ever produced. Now, it's huge - won the Pulitzer - and they're FINALLY doing it. I adore this play. A couple "presented events", which means we bring outside companies/solo performers in for a week run. The Women of Lockerbie Another female playwright - yay! (Deborah Brevoort) - who came here for a reading of another play earlier this season. This one's about a nasty plane crash in Scotland several years ago, killed a hundred some people. Story of grief, trying to move on - done with a somewhat Greek structure. A perfect show for BTE. I really really want to be in this show - fortunately I do have the opportunity to audition before I leave. Far Away by Caryl Churchill, one of my fave playwrights. Another great but terrifying show, not very long but very powerful. Shows a bleak distopia (is that a word? opposite of utopia? yeah?)...a warning. This is a season add-on, with a shorter run. I'm excited about this season, glad to have watched it develop and been a part of the process. It's cool to be involved and see how companies like this work - all the things that have to be taken into consideration (audience appeal, the "tone" of the whole season and balancing it out, dealing with a small community's restrictions, plus specifics like our "Project Discovery" program for high school kids that gets them to the first show of the season). I got new license plates today! This is not normally an exciting event, BUT for the first time they're not from Nebraska. Colorado now, and I pretty much dig having mountains on my license plates instead of prairies or Chimney Rock or cornstalks or whatever. Yee haw...what fun. Ugh - NPR membership drive. Lame. Yeah yeah, I know it's necessary, but damn it's annoying. If I had money, hell yeah I'd give it. But I'm on food stamps, guys. I just wanna hear some freaking news. |
