Great Wild Happiness

OK, so I completely forgot how freaking fantastic Good Will Hunting is. I saw it sometime in late high school, I suppose, when I was basically clueless (not that I have much of a clue these days, but at least I've experienced a good chunk more). I remember liking it, but I really appreciated it tonight. The story is so clearly told, and the characters distinctly drawn. The great performances (Robin Williams, Matt Damon, and Minnie Driver) in this movie are a testament to the power of specificity. I love it when they seem to have made real CHOICES about their characters. It's one of those films where you truly understand where these people are coming from. I think the director, Gus Van Sant, must be pretty fabulous. It made me think about how wonderful it is to work with a director that you really trust, who you have complete faith in. I don't know him well yet, but my director now (Martin) is certainly a candidate for that.

I can hardly believe that this movie was written by those two kids who have now pretty much dissolved into the bland pop culture soup. Ben Affleck is as boring as shit these days, and where the heck has Matt Damon been lately? Oh yeah, he's in that Stuck on You thing, which I will hold judgement on since I know nothing about it except the previews look pretty ridiculous. Anyway, they somehow pulled a great script out of their perky Boston bums, and for that I do respect them.

They left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling on this cold and snowy night.

On an unrelated note, I should make an effort to get out a bit more. I'm getting stir crazy. It's worse in the winter, cause at least when it was nice I had a chance to spend time in the park or whatever. Now I just come home at 5 or so - when it's ALREADY DARK (grrrrr)...Aw, sure, I have stuff to do. I just need to get motivated. I'm distracted lately. OK -

I'm gonna work on my lines. No wait, first I'm gonna do a little online research on McCarthy (Oh by the way read some stuff in a book about the 50s today -- they talked about the first H-bomb test, which is part of our show. They said that if the bomb was dropped over New York City, the fireball would be 4 miles, vaporizing everything from Central Park to Washington Square, and creating such a crater that the Hudson and East Rivers would flow across midtown, splitting Manhattan in two. Putting it in those terms was, for me, pretty intense. Anyway...) and the 50s. Then I'm gonna work on lines. Play guitar. Read a bit of - um - either a play (I'm looking for audition monologues, gotta get that going) or the book of the moment Real Live Nude Girl (read it before, reading it again now that I can understand it a little better). OK, now I have a plan.
