Fortunately, the other offer (Lost Nation Theater in Vermont, nice summer stock place) was not a surprise or something I'd been holding out for. Season was pretty good, and I'd work there another time, but this year just wasn't right. Sooo amusing though - this seems to happen every time, for years now - usually with Sesame Street Live (again, I've chosen very little $$ instead of the big bux doing cheesy arena shows - maybe someday I'll come to my senses :)). Then last year I'd even signed a contract with AFT when Bloomsburg came calling, irresistably. I guess it's a nice problem to have, and so far I've had good instincts about what to take or pass. So yeah. Charleston Stage Company. I'll be there July thru April of next year. Wow. What really sold me on this one was the town itself - I've never been there, but when I emailed some former interns at CSC they all raved about the city. Not much bigger than hometown Lincoln (a little over 300K I think), but it's warm and on the ocean and lively and something NEW. The housing sounds like a nice deal too. 2 bedroom 2 bath apartments on the Ashley River that I share with another intern (sooo glad to have my own bedroom, I gotta have my space). I was the only white girl hired as an intern this year. That's kinda cool. There's always such a swarm of us (a "gaggle", perhaps?), so it's a bit of an honor. In the end, my career decision has trumped my personal life choices again, and I'm not totally happy about that. I wish I could be sailing into this completely confident that I did the right thing. Maybe this will be different than last time. The situation is different, the emotions have morphed, the options are new and somewhat better this time. We shall see. Man this theater lifestyle is tough. BUT wonderful. What's meant to be, will be. Ta ta and happy SPRING to all! |
