It went very well, was pretty well-attended, and everybody had nice things to say. I think we did good work, and most importantly it was FUN! Lately the mainstage show, A Christmas Carol (only 2 shows left - yay!!) has not been especially satisfying, so it was nice to really enjoy performing again. Speaking of Christmas Carol, from last Wed to tomorrow we'll have done 9 shows in six days. Oy. Today we have off. Thank god. I'm still sick, and have been for almost 2 weeks now. This cold has been shifting around (from major chest congestion to a painful cough & fever and now it's mostly in my sinuses, with a sore throat. ugh.) and just won't leave me alone!!!! Anyway, back to the recital: Ruth, who lives with Danny in the other half of my house, gave me the best possible compliment that day. She said, referring to our Shakespeare scene (from Macbeth), "You were born to play Lady M!" I was delighted. That is one of my all-time dream roles. I've always felt I MUST play it someday (when I'm a little older), and to hear that from someone whose opinion I respect meant so much to me. Yay!! I actually felt that that scene was the weakest in the recital (there was so much more we could've done with it), but a lot of people specifically mentioned that one in a positive way, so whatever. It's always hard to know...So yeah. I was happy. Shelby came to stay a couple nights and see the recital & Christmas Carol. The visit was fabulous - we've gotten over the weirdness of seeing each other after a year out of touch, and we had a great time together. I'm so glad to have my friend back; there was plenty of giggling and general merriment. Also had a brief visit with Jeremy on Saturday, as his tour passed through my lil' town. Unfortunately, one of the idiots on his tour took the STUPIDEST way possible from New York City and added on at least 2 hours to the drive time (it's usually a 2 1/2 hour trip from NYC), cutting into the brief visit even more. Oh well. J arrived and was immediately ushered into the bar of choice, Russell's, to join the party (or what remained of it). Waste no time! Gave him his Christmas presents, he seemed to dig them. I might do some nude modelling for an art class at the university! Whoa, huh? I dunno if I can handle it, but I've been in touch with the professor and we might schedule something for March. It pays a little bit, and every little bit helps, but really I'd be doing it for the experience. I feel like if I can manage it, it'd be very liberating. It's something I feel I *should* do at some point in my life, just cause. And I did do a monologue about it for a long time, so I should have the actual experience now, right? I'm feeling better about my body these days - I'm continuing to lose weight. Food stamps are the best diet I've ever been on! :) I'm eating well, but not too much, as I'm trying not to spend much of my own money on food. I spent SOO much on Christmas presents (well, SOO much considering I make very very little) that I need to be wise for the next few weeks. Jeremy went on a date with my sister. ha ha ha. Not really, not at all, but it amuses me to no end to call it a "date". They went to a show (Bobby Conn and the Glass Gypsies - see Ginger's blog for details) together when he was in New York, and I totally wished I'd been there. I've heard one of their songs from the CD Jeremy got, and absolutely loved it. The show sounded fabulous. Soooo jealous. But I guess it's a good thing, as J and Ginger are now officially friends, not just friends by association. This pleases me. I like bringing cool people together. I've been *making* Christmas cards this year, it's so much fun. I'm feeling more creative lately, and though my watercolor skills are severely limited, I get a big kick out of it. And they're made with love. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to make as many as I wanted, and I refused to send cards I didn't make, so they mostly only made it to family. And some are going to arrive post-Christmas by a couple days...Sorry folks, but it doesn't mean I don't love you and wish you a happy holiday!!! Speaking of holidays, I fly out to Estes Park on Wednesday, and I'm pretty excited. It'll be beautiful, and just nice to get away. Plus I'm looking forward to my other travel plans after that. Enough for now - there's your update. Life is good. I'm happy today, despite my lingering illness. |
