Happy DecemberGot a job offer yesterday! For Jan (the fat one - boo) in "Grease" at the Crown Uptown Dinner Theatre in Wichita, KS. Rehearsals start mid-January. It's always nice to get an offer, but I've already turned it down. I have a great sublet in New York lined up - my first apartment in Manhattan! - and I'm just too excited about that to spend the winter in Kansas. I've been meaning to get back into the city for awhile, and now is the time! It's just nice to know that I have the option of steadily working in shows - somewhere. This happened the last time I was about to move to New York - back 3 years ago when I sublet in Astoria. A few weeks before I left, I got a call from some random children's theatre in Indiana that I wasn't very interested in - but I had to make the decision between having a so-so job and taking my chances in the city. Taking my chances worked out well before - and I'm ready to do that again. So. Called Kansas today and said thanks but no thanks.
So my sublet - it's at 129th and Lenox, right in Harlem but apparently a really good area. I have a friend (on tour with me right now) who lived in the same building for a year and loved it. And it's sooo cheap - cause I'm living in a 5 bedroom - so I can get a relatively low-stress day job, take classes/voice lessons, and audition like a crazy woman. Then back to Alaska? We'll see.
Tour's OK - we had our first full day off today, in beautiful (ha) Carbondale, IL. Not much to do but shop and watch movies, but I needed a day like this. Saw Pride & Prejudice last night and drooled over not-too-pretty-but-extrememly-sexy-brooding-sad-eyed-type Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen). I don't always go for pretty period romances, but this gave me some thrills. Well shot & acted, oozing sexual tension, but totally PG which made it even more fun for a change. When they FINALLY do kiss - just once - it's such a relief!! I felt like such a girl. Whee!
